I'll be living in an apartment in a town called Ishioka. It's a little under 2 hours from Tokyo, and about an hour from the nearest friend in the country. I'll be commuting by bike every day, and life should be fairly relaxed. The town is pretty small - 50,000 people. I'm teaching at a Junior High School.

Otakon is the one of the largest and longest running anime and Japanese culture conventions in the United States and it boasts one of the largest convention artists' alleys in the world. Otakon is well known for their high-profile guests from the anime industry and Japanese pop culture. This year, guests include voice actors Crispin Freeman and Kikuko Inoue and Japanese music stars HYDE and K.A.Z.

Several months ago, I was informed that people were leaving messages to me on The Island since it was looking like I was unofficially closing the community. Most of these farewell messages were from long time members and administrators. It was touching to see how many people truly enjoyed their time at the site. I realized it would be a tragedy to let such an awesome community dissolve and decided it was about time to pay the lease on The Island and bring the site back up.

Twentyseven and I sat down several times to rethink the site vision and ultimately decided it was appropriate to bring back The Burning Gates as a wholly community based website while divorcing my personal site to another domain. Twentyseven worked hard to program this amazing new home for The Island with a great set of new features that I hope you will enjoy. All of the familiar places are still here such as the forum, oekaki and of course The Island and we are committed to bringing you new tools, features and updates as we progress.

If you are new to our community, please take a look around, register, and come join us in The Island. I hope that you enjoy our site.
