I hear things about this game, but I find a common thread in opinions towards it is that it's actually been held back by the Wii a bit. What are your thoughts?

i cant really comment on the wii version but the psp one has been a different gaming experience for me, its not all about run in, whack the attack button and win, you have to pre-plan everything, making sure you have enough stamina to perform attacks, choosing the best weapon for the job and ensuring you have traps if you wish to capture the monster you are in pursuit of.

also the fact that you dont level up is good, it is a game about stats and plenty of numbers to browse through, but by hunting bigger creatures you can make better armour and weapons to further hunt much bigger creatures and so on.

unfortuantly i havnt played it with any other people yet, hence the cry out on here, but it looks like ill be buying the other half a psp and a copy so we can monster hunt together, as thats where the joy of the game lies!

hopefully one day i will be able to afford a wii and start playing on there but for now, its psp only for me!

and dissidia is kicking my ass! *grumbles*

I've been on the Wii game, Monster Hunter Tri, for a few weeks now. I've always wanted to try it since the release of the second game but I didn't have a net connection on my ps2 back then. Tri doesn't have quite a few of the weapons such as the bow and arrow or the gun lance or the hunting horn, but the switch-axe is pretty sweet and the underwater monsters are awesome and terrifying to face due to their sheer speed vs your reduced movement underwater.

I main great sword and am currently going for great baggi armor to reduce my charge attack time. Charge attack is essential for great sword. Even thoiugh it has an infinite combo, comboing with a greatsword is a waste of time because other blades like the longsword or the switch axe do it faster and dish out more damage as well as elemental attacks. You need to have the skill to do a full charge on a monsters face several times to break off pieces for rare carves and because of the sheer damage you do above any other weapon.

It took a while to get the components I needed for my current sword, but it was worth it since my sharpness range is long so I don't even need my quick sharpen skill anymore, plus the damage is decent so I can actually properly deal with a lot of the monsters I've been hacking away at so far. Playing online has been a blast. The wii setup is actually pretty good and the servers are fairly reliable, I just keep getting slaughtered during the jhen mohran event because I've only ever done it with one other person, and you need at least 3 to keep firing the harpoons into its body at a steady pace.

ive been quite fussy with my weapons, currently im playing with a hammer but i like faster weapons. Although im finding it hard to reproramme myself to a longsword or duelblades.

as for online its something ive never tried, being on the psp and all its not very popular here, now if i were to play modern warfare 2 id fit right in, but alas its not my cup of tea.

so ive bought the girlfriend a psp and a copy of it and im gonna get her to play it with me ^^
